Klondike Derby 2024

We had an outstanding Klondike Derby overnight campout at the Treasure Valley Scout Reservation on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Our crew had to work through a series of challenges throughout the derby, and we learned a lot along the way. Our most impressive success was the bucket transit challenge using lashed boards and ropes (photos below). We had to get a bucket with a 10 lb. weight over an imaginary river, without touching the river. The judges commented that our Scouts’ approach was the most sophisticated engineering solution of the day!

We really appreciate the strong leadership of Luke Milliken and Luke Gettings throughout the campout. Thanks to Brayden Hamilton for getting our campout food and leading the excellent cooking.

Meet before dawn on Saturday.

The calm before the derby.

The patrol leader “badly hurt his leg” and needed be carried out on a stretcher - for the third year in a row.

A different bucket challenge.

Special thanks to Andy Getting for planning, coordinating, and attending the campout. Thanks to Eric Evans and Mary Kay Braygreen for joining us as an overnight adult leaders for the campout. We appreciate Josh Danker for joining us for Saturday’s derby activities.
