Lake Dennison Campout 2023

We started our campout at Lake Dennison this weekend on Friday evening with a lake view campsite and a clear view of the stars.   We had a campfire and s’mores in the evening, and some played Magic the Gathering before going to bed.  On Saturday morning, we had an excellent breakfast of oatmeal, bacon, and fruit; and we carried our kayaks to a small beach by the lake.   We paddled around the edge of the lake while exploring many of the inlets, and we paddled through a beaver dam area with Canadian Geese and a Great Blue Heron.   We finished our trek with a kayak race and mid-afternoon lunch.   Following lunch, we did some rank advancement, put up an excellent rain tarp, played games, and later prepared dinner.   The rain started in the late afternoon, and it became very heavy in the early evening.  We had some flash puddles and leaks around some of our tents and had to returned after sunset to get some dry sleep.

Mountain Bike Troop Meeting April, 2023

We had a great mountain bike trip for our Troop meeting April 4, 2023.

Ian Wolossow did a great job leading the response for the simulated injury and extraction.   Michael Evans was treated for a cut on his forehead and a broken leg.  Our extraction crew was very glad that he was relatively light weight!  Our Scouts did a great job handling the trail emergency.

Camp Nobscot Cabin Campout 2023

We had an excellent cabin campout at Camp Nobscot in Sudbury.   We backpacked deep into the camp to the Haynes cabin near the great views of Tippling Rock.   We were outdoors for much of the afternoon – and then settled into the cabin for dinner and evening board and card games.

For dinner we had beef stroganoff, a major Philmont treat, and the dessert burritos were fantastic! Scouts took advantage of opportunities to work on rank advancement and merit badge requirements.

We are looking forward to our next campout on April 29 and 30 at Sandy Neck Beach on Cape Cod.

Klondike Derby 2023

Scouts from Carlisle’s Troop 135 participated in the 2023 Quinapoxet District Klondike Derby on January 28. Eight Scouts and 2 parents from Carlisle traveled to the Treasure Valley Scout Reservation in Rutland, MA, for this yearly winter event.Carlisle’s Troop 135 found and visited all the stations. They excelled at trivia and at “fishing” (in dry land) with homemade poles, getting commendations from the station counselors at these stations. Most Scouts and adult volunteers camped overnight after the event, where they enjoyed a burger dinner, s’mores, hot cocoa, and egg quesadillas in the morning.
